Find the cause, then fix it

Most engine and transmission problems start small: a leak, a noise, a slip between gears or a warning light on the dash.

We start with a scan and a road test, then inspect the engine or transmission itself, so the quote covers the actual cause instead of a guess. On Porsche that means PIWIS, and on BMW and Mini it means ISTA, the software their dealers use.

Every job gets a VHR, our Vehicle Health Report, and a written quote. Nothing comes apart until you approve it.

Signs it's time to bring it in

These are the usual causes. We confirm which one it is before we quote anything.

Questions about engine and transmission

Should I repair my engine or replace it?

It depends on the vehicle's value, its mileage and what failed. After the diagnosis we'll price a repair, a rebuild and a replacement engine where each applies, so you can compare.

How often does a timing belt need replacing?

Most manufacturers call for it between 60,000 and 105,000 miles, or by age even if the vehicle doesn't see many miles. We'll look up the interval for yours. Many engines use a timing chain instead, which has no set interval but can stretch with age.

Do you service DSG and PDK transmissions?

Yes. We do fluid and filter service on automatics and dual-clutch transmissions like DSG and PDK, and diagnose shift problems before recommending a repair or replacement.

Can I keep driving with the check engine light on?

If it's steady and the vehicle drives normally, it's usually fine to drive in for a scan soon. If it's flashing, the engine is misfiring badly enough to damage the catalytic converter, so stop driving and call us.
